At the moment, I am having my vacations at Protaras area whoever follows me on Instagram knows. I am having a blast!!! Full breakfast, all day at the beach, relaxing, reading, amazing dinners (goodbye beach body), basically living the summer dream :p.
I wanted to make a summer post with a bit of travelling and fashion, as I have no posts about Cyprus which is the PLACE-TO-BE in the Summer. I was thinking of making something a bit unique than 5 beaches you should visit or the top 3 restaurants you should have dinner. Therefore, I decided to write about the 4 MUST-VISIT spots in Famagusta District which includes a bit of everything. The holding-hat-pose is not a new I have applied to my poses but it was so windy.
First stop is my favorite Ayia Napa International Sculpture Park. I love sculptures and I must say that there are some masterpieces in this place. I mentioned the park before in my Instagram with the hashtag #IfyouareinCyprus. The location is amazing, an area of 20,000 sq.m. . An open park on a slope looking at the beach, the perfect site for perfect photos. Big statues are “welcoming” you left and right, along your walk in the park. The park hosts sculptures from artists around the world. The park adds new pieces every winter. A cactus park is being built next to it, hopefully next Summer will be ready to visit too. I have not taken a lot of photos of the park not to spoil before you visit.
TIP: I recommend to arrange to go the Melissi beach and spend your day there and visit the park around 7:00 when it will not be so hot and the sky gets that pink color!!!
Sea Caves is the second spot (Instagram). A unique MUST-VISIT landmark!!! The cavernous tunnels and the rock formations create a natural structure with caves, where the legend says that pirates were storing their bounty and seafarers used to hide out. A lot of tourists are jumping from the cliff as the waters there are crystal clear. However, you need to be careful as there are some spots with rocks. Snorkeling and diving are very popular in this spot.
TIP: Explore the whole Cape Greko filled with sea caves and nature trails.
This is the most romantic spot to come with your other half, the best spot for wedding or general photo shoots, or come with friends and enjoy the view with a refreshing ice-cream. The location of the Ayioi Anargiroi Chapel is magical. The chapel is on the cliff and is surrounded with blue, blue sky and blue sea. A lot of weddings are be held here in the summer. Underneath it there are caves too, that people choose this place for cliff jumping too.
TIP: You must visit the Kamara to Koraka, a natural arch, if you are into swimming, you must go to the Konnos Beach with crystal waters, which is opposite the chapel (you need a car to get there), or if you are really hungry go the Spartiatis seafood restaurant, next to Grecian Park hotel 😉 .
The last spot can be seen from almost anywhere in Protaras, I am talking about the church of Profitis Elias. You will know you will be there from the trees full of colorful ribbons. People that visit the church, tie a ribbon on the trees with the hope that their wish will be granted. The bad thing is that you need to climb around 300 steps to get to the church but when you do, you will understand is worth it. A great view of Protaras and a good spot for photos. At night the church is illuminated, it is like the lighthouse of Protaras.
TIP: If you are hungry try the sandwiches at the kiosks under the church, they are delicious and cheap. If you want more options, the main road of Protaras with restaurants is not far.
TIP2: If you have read my travel posts you will realize that I am always mentioning unique shops, as I get fascinated by them. I have discovered one in Famagusta District too!!! I was invited to a bday party and I was looking for a gift. After a few shops I came across the Emilie Store. Entering the Emilie Store I knew it was different from the other shops in Protaras Avenue. The variety is huge from clothes to hats, bags, summer clutches and a big selection of jewelry. You can see that every product is carefully selected, they are all handmade and one of a kind, mostly are pieces from Greek designers. Even men can find something, as there are unisex jewelry pieces. The best place for unique gifts and accessories in Protaras. Check their facebook and instagram for more products.
So have I convinced you to visit Cyprus? I am kidding!!! Cyprus has so many different places to visit, it can satisfied all, from crystal beaches to traditional villages, but more about it will follow in the future. I will like to know your experiences in Cyprus!!! At the moment, follow me on Instagram to see more about my vacations here in Protaras!!!
